Manhattan Beach Youth Basketball (MBYB) is a recreational basketball program for boys and girls from kindergarten through 12th grade. Our mission is to provide an opportunity for MBYB players to have a positive experience playing basketball.
Thank you for stepping up to volunteer as a hoops coach for our MBYB youngsters! Your efforts make a difference and are appreciated!
We will use this page to help provide you with resources and guidance. The first information will be focused on your 3 main requirements to be eligible to coach in MBYB. These apply to you even if you plan on being an assistant coach.
Eligibility Requirements:
You must be properly registered (this includes a background check) when you register your child you will have an opportunity to indicate that you are interested in coaching. Follow the steps in the registration system to have yourself properly registered and make sure your background check is current (The background check is good for a few years Follow this Link to complete your Background Check https://manhattan-beach-youth-basketball.sportngin.com/register/form/789620644 ).
Concussion Education - Concussions are an important issue in youth sports. While basketball is not a sport with high rates of concussion incidents, it is important that you complete this free, online course provided by the CDC so that you will be better prepared to help provide a safer environment for our young athletes. Once you complete the course you can print out a certificate of completion to provide to your league division commissioner. https://www.cdc.gov/headsup/youthsports/training/index.html
VIRTUS Training. If you will be coaching in a division that plays its games at American Martyrs you will be required to complete a one-time VIRTUS training class as part of the Parish's commitment to safeguarding the children. Your commissioner will inform you if this is required of you.
That is all for now. Keep an eye out for new information as the season approaches.
