Manhattan Beach Youth Basketball (MBYB) is a volunteer run organization that welcomes both new and returning K-12th grade players, to take part in a recreational basketball season full of fun, friends and learning! Registration typically opens in the fall and the season is played during the winter.

Pre-Season Timeline:

• September 15 - October 15: Registration Period
• October 15 - Nov 9:
  • Waitlist Open
  • HS (only) Registration Extended.
• NOVEMBER: Divisions are formed, Commissioner & Coach Recruitment, Coaches register.
• DECEMBER: Teams are formed and communicated to families.

Team Formation: 

• K-3rd grade leagues: We try our best to grant friend requests and coaches are invited to form teams of friends and classmates.
• 4-8th grade leagues: Teams are typically selected through a draft process to promote balanced competition. 
• High school leagues: Players have the opportunity to form their own teams with friends and classmates.

Practice Schedule:

• 1st-8th Grade teams will have one 1-hour practice per week throughout the season, at league-designated courts.  The practice day and time will be selected by the volunteer coaches. 
• High school leagues do not have a designated practice time during the week.

• Each team will play one game per week on the weekends from early January through early March. We aim to offer each team 9-10 regular-season games.
• Grades 4 and above will also have an opportunity to enter the playoffs.
